نقاشان چینی و رومیThe Chinese and Greek Painters
Page 1. One day, a ruler invited two teams of artists—the Chinese painters and the Greek painters—to his palace. He showed them two facing walls and said, “Let each team reveal the beauty of its art.” A curtain was hung between them.
Page 2. The Chinese painters asked for many colors. They painted flowers, birds, a stream, and mountains in brilliant hues. Each day their design became more beautiful, until the wall looked like a living garden.
Page 3. The Greek painters asked for no colors. Day and night, they smoothed and polished their wall. With soft stones and cloths, they removed every dull mark until the wall shone like a mirror.
Page 4. When the curtain covering the Chinese painters’ wall was opened, everyone was amazed. A garden filled with flowers, birds, and waterfalls appeared before them. The ruler smiled and praised their art and hard work.
Page 5. Then the curtain between the two walls was removed. Light touched the polished wall, which reflected every color and shape of the garden with radiant clarity. Everyone marveled again: the clear wall had welcomed beauty into itself.
Page 6. The ruler praised both teams, and the artists became friends. Creating beauty is valuable, and a calm, clear heart can also reflect the beauty of the world more brightly.
