بازرگان و طوطیThe Merchant and the Parrot
Page 1. A merchant kept a beautiful green parrot in a cage. Before traveling to India, he asked everyone what gift they wanted. The parrot said, “Greet the free parrots of India and ask why they are free while I live in a cage.”
Page 2. In India, the merchant came to a grove filled with parrots. He delivered his parrot’s message: “Your friend in a distant land lives in a cage and asks you to show the way to freedom.”
Page 3. When one parrot heard the message, it trembled, fell from the branch, and lay still. The merchant thought his words had harmed the bird. Sadly, he said to himself, “I wish I had not spoken.”
Page 4. The merchant returned home and gave out the gifts. Then he sat beside the cage and sadly described what the parrot in India had done. The caged parrot listened carefully and understood the secret message.
Page 5. Suddenly, the parrot trembled and lay still on the floor of the cage. The merchant thought the parrot had died. Worried, he opened the cage and gently lifted the bird out.
Page 6. The parrot opened its eyes and flew to a branch. “The parrot in India showed me the way to freedom through its actions,” it explained. The merchant smiled and left the cage open. Sometimes the wisest message has no words.
