صوفی و خرشThe Sufi and His Donkey
Page 1. After a long journey, a traveling Sufi reached a lodge. He entrusted his gentle gray donkey to the attendant and said, “Please remember his food and water.” Then he went inside to rest with the dervishes.
Page 2. The dervishes were poor and hungry. Without the Sufi’s permission, they sold his donkey and used the money to buy bread, rice, and fruit. The attendant was troubled, but he could not stop them.
Page 3. That evening, everyone ate and celebrated. As the dervishes danced, they chanted, “The donkey is gone! The donkey is gone!” The Sufi did not ask what the chant meant. Happily, he joined them: “The donkey is gone!”
Page 4. In the morning, the Sufi went to the stable to continue his journey, but the donkey’s stall was empty. Holding the loose lead rope, he anxiously asked the attendant, “Where is my donkey?”
Page 5. The attendant replied sadly, “The dervishes sold your donkey. I came to warn you last night, but everyone was shouting ‘The donkey is gone,’ and you repeated it louder than anyone. I thought you already knew.”
Page 6. The Sufi was sad and realized that he had simply followed the others. He continued his journey on foot, but from then on, before repeating anyone’s words, he listened, asked questions, and understood their meaning.
