01

I do not know what I want, God,

02

what I search for night and day,

03

what my weary gaze seeks,

04

why this heart full of burning is dejected.

05

I flee from the gathering of familiar people,

06

and creep into a corner, quietly and silently,

07

my gaze submerged in darkness,

08

listening to my sick heart.

09

I flee from these people who, with me,

10

are outwardly companions and sincere,

11

but inwardly, from the depth of their pettiness,

12

have fastened two hundred false accusations to my skirts.

13

From these people who, when they heard my poetry,

14

blossomed before me like a fragrant flower,

15

but at the moment when they sat in private,

16

called me a disgraced madwoman.

17

My heart, O my mad heart,

18

which burns from these estrangements,

19

cry out no longer against the hands of others.

20

For God's sake, enough of this madness.
