ADDITIONAL POEMS · POEM 18 OF 31
English translation draft, awaiting review.
01I undressed, so that in that enchanting air,
02I might wash my body in the spring's water.
03The silent night poured temptation upon my heart,
04to tell the sorrow of my heart into the spring's ear.
05The water was cool, and the shining waves,
06moaning, crept eagerly around me.
07It was as though, with soft and crystal hands,
08they drew my soul and body toward themselves.
09A wind blew from far away, and hurriedly
10poured a skirtful of flowers upon my hair.
11The enchanting, sharp fragrance of wild pennyroyal
12hung within my nostrils from the breath of the wind.
13I closed my eyes, and, silent and light of spirit,
14pressed my body against the wet and fresh grasses.
15Like a woman who has slept in her beloved's embrace,
16I entrusted myself entirely to the hands of the spring.
17Upon my two legs, the trembling lips of water,
18kissing and restless, thirsty and feverish,
19suddenly crept into one another…
20satisfied and intoxicated,
21my body and the spirit of the sinful spring.
