LineEnglish translation
01

God's gaze smiles upon our faces,

02

though we have not found the way to the shore of his grace,

03

for, like the black-deeded ascetics clad in robes,

04

we have not drunk wine concealed from God's eyes.

05

If the forehead grows black from the brand of a sin,

06

it is better than the mark of the prayer stone worn out of hypocrisy.

07

Not to speak God's name is better than, beneath your breath,

08

saying “God, God” to deceive the people.

09

What sorrow is it to us if one night, among the gathering, the sheikh

10

joyfully closed the gate of paradise before our faces?

11

He will open it… he who, with his grace and purity,

12

seems to have kneaded the earth of our nature from sorrow.

13

The storm of taunts did not take the smile from our lips.

14

We are a mountain, and we sit amid the sea.

15

Since the breast is the place of the unique jewel of truth,

16

for this reason, amid the wave of events, we sit alone.

17

It is we… we who have heard the ascetic's taunt,

18

it is we… we who have torn the garment of piety,

19

for within the garment, nothing but the body of deception

20

have we seen from these travellers upon the road of truth.

21

That fire which flames within our heart,

22

if it had fallen amid the sheikh's skirts,

23

he would no longer have called us, who have burned from the sparks of love,

24

by the name of disgraced sinners.

25

Let the people, in mockery, tell,

26

into one another's ears, the tale of our enduring love.

27

The one whose heart came alive through love never dies.

28

Our permanence is recorded in the register of the world.
