01

Tonight, upon the threshold of your majesty,

02

I am troubled by the temptation of inspiration.

03

My soul has grown weary of this struggle,

04

O poetry… O blood-drinking goddess.

05

It has been so long since you sang that divine song

06

into my ear with tenderness.

07

I know you are thirsty for blood once more,

08

but… enough of all these sacrifices.

09

How blithely unaware you are that, out of selfishness,

10

you have treated your servant so cruelly.

11

When you planted your love within her heart,

12

you separated her from everything she had.

13

Alas, when I smiled upon your face,

14

you settled into my suffering and persisted.

15

My tears became the colour of the poppy's blood;

16

you poured them into a cup and drank them.

17

When I cast my name at your feet,

18

you cast me into the lap of the snare of shame.

19

Ah… goddess, who is it that dashes

20

the mirror of my hope against a stone?

21

In the fragrance of sinful kisses,

22

I saw your fiery dream.

23

To the melody of a sweet sorrow,

24

I danced within your temple of silence.

25

But… alas and pain, for nothing but longing

26

has ever been the wine within my cup.

27

Alas… O hope that has seen autumn,

28

where is the blossom-filled crown of my name?

29

Apart from these two tear-filled eyes of mine,

30

tell me, at last… what remains for you to take?

31

O poetry… O blood-drinking goddess,

32

enough now… of all these sacrifices.
