01

The rain of light

02

pouring through the lattice of an endless corridor,

03

was washing a flower upon the tiled wall.

04

The black snake of this flower's stem

05

was alive in a soft and delicate dance.

06

As though the burning essence of dance

07

had dripped into this black snake's throat.

08

The tile flower was alive

09

in a world that kept its secrets,

10

a blue world whose depths could never be reached.

11

In childhood,

12

in the curvature of veranda ceilings,

13

within the colored panes of windows,

14

among the stains upon the walls,

15

wherever my eyes sought something unknown, lost to themselves,

16

I saw something like this tile flower,

17

and whenever I went to pick it,

18

my dream fell petal by petal.

19

My gaze clung to the black weave of the flower's stem,

20

and felt the warmth of its veins:

21

all my life had dripped into the tile flower's throat.

22

The tile flower had another life.

23

Did this flower,

24

which had grown in the soil of all my dreams,

25

know the child of long ago,

26

or was it only I who had dripped into it,

27

who had been lost?

28

My gaze clung to the stem's fragile weave.

29

One could cling only to its stem.

30

How could one pick

31

a flower that a mere imagining would wither?

32

The hand of my shadow crept upward.

33

The blue heart of the tiles beat.

34

The rain of light stopped:

35

my dream fell petal by petal.
