01

I have never wished

02

to become a star in the mirage of the sky,

03

or, like the souls of the chosen,

04

to become the silent companion of angels.

05

I have never been separated from the earth.

06

I have not been acquainted with the star.

07

I stand upon the earth,

08

with my body which, like the stem of a plant,

09

draws in the wind and sunlight and water

10

to live,

11

fruitful with desire,

12

fruitful with pain.

13

I stand upon the earth,

14

so that the stars may praise me,

15

so that the breezes may caress me.

16

I look through my little window.

17

I am nothing but the resonance of a song.

18

I am not everlasting.

19

I seek nothing but the resonance of a song.

20

In the cry of a pleasure purer

21

than the simple silence of a sorrow,

22

I do not seek a nest

23

within a body that is a drop of dew

24

upon the lily of my body.

25

Upon the wall of my cottage, which is life,

26

with the black line of love,

27

memories have been drawn

28

by passing people:

29

a heart struck by an arrow,

30

an overturned candle,

31

silent, faded dots

32

upon the tangled letters of madness.

33

Every lip that reached my lips

34

conceived a star

35

within my night, as it settled

36

upon the river of memories.

37

Then why should I wish for a star?

38

This is my song,

39

pleasing, enchanting.

40

Before this, it was no more than this.
