01

All night, someone said to my heart,

02

“You are deeply troubled by the sight of him.

03

At dawn, with the white stars,

04

he goes, he goes—keep him.”

05

I, in your fragrance, had gone beyond the world,

06

unaware of the deception of tomorrows.

07

Upon my delicate eyelashes there poured

08

your eyes, like a dust of gold.

09

My body was hot from the touch of your hands,

10

my hair free within your breathing.

11

I blossomed with love and said,

12

“Whoever has given their heart to their beloved

13

will not set out to cause them pain.

14

Let him go; may my eyes follow him.

15

Let him go; my love, keep him safe.”

16

Ah, now you have gone, and dusk

17

spreads its shadow over the breast of the road.

18

Little by little, the dark god of sorrow

19

sets foot in the temple of my gaze,

20

and writes upon every wall

21

verses entirely black, black.
