rose like smoke

چو دود بر می خاست

from the city of cicadas.

ز شهر زنجره ها

Like smoke it glided

چون دود می لغزید

across the windows.

به روی پنجره ها

All night, there,

تمام شب آنجا

within my breast,

میان سینه من

someone, out of despair,

کسی ز نومیدی

was gasping for breath.

نفس نفس می زد

Someone rose.

کسی به پا می خاست

Someone wanted you.

کسی ترا می خواست

The two cold hands pushed that person

دو دست سرد او را

back once more.

دوباره پس می زد

All night, there,

تمام شب آنجا

from the black branches,

ز شاخه های سیاه

a sorrow fell.

غمی فرو می ریخت

Someone was left behind by themselves.

کسی ز خود می ماند

Someone called to you.

کسی ترا می خواند

The air, like rubble,

هوا چو آواری

fell upon that person.

به روی او می ریخت

My little tree

درخت کوچک من

was in love with the wind,

به باد عاشق بود

with the wandering wind.

به باد بی سامان
