ANOTHER BIRTH · POEM 12 OF 31
English translation draft, awaiting review.
01Those dark pupils—ah—
02those simple Sufis of mine, dwellers in solitude,
03in the rapture of the whirling dance of his two eyes,
04had lost consciousness.
05I saw that over the whole of me he rose in waves,
06like the reddish heat of fire,
07like the reflection of water,
08like a cloud of the convulsions of rains,
09like a sky of the breath of warm seasons.
10To infinity,
11to beyond life,
12he had spread.
13I saw that in the blowing of his hands,
14the material substance of my existence
15was dissolving.
16I saw that his heart,
17with that wandering, bewitching resonance,
18had wound through all of my heart.
19The clock flew.
20The curtain went with the wind.
21I had clasped him
22within a halo of fire.
23I wanted to speak,
24but, strangely,
25the shadow-spreading multitude of his eyelashes,
26like the roots of a curtain of silk,
27flowed from the base of darkness,
28along that long, drawn-out stretch of desire,
29and that convulsion, that death-laden convulsion,
30to my lost ending.
31I saw that I was being released.
32I saw that I was being released.
33I saw that the skin of my body was cracking from the expansion of love.
34I saw that my fiery volume
35slowly melted,
36and poured, poured, poured,
37into the moon, the moon seated in a hollow, the dark, troubled moon.
38We had wept within one another.
39Within one another, that whole unreliable moment of oneness
40we had lived like mad people.
