Day or night?

02

No, friend, it is an eternal dusk,

03

with two doves passing through the wind

04

like two white coffins,

05

and voices from afar, from that strange plain,

06

unsteady and wandering like the movement of the wind.

07

Something must be said.

08

Something must be said.

09

My heart wants to mate with darkness.

10

Something must be said.

11

What a heavy forgetfulness.

12

An apple falls from a branch.

13

The yellow seeds of flax

14

break beneath the beaks of my loving canaries.

15

The broad-bean flower, in the intoxication of the breeze, surrenders its blue nerves

16

to release from the mute anxiety of change.

17

And here, within me, within my head?

18

Ah…

19

Within my head there is nothing but the turning of dense, red particles.

20

And my gaze, like a false word,

21

is ashamed and lowered.

22

I think of a moon.

23

I think of a word in a poem.

24

I think of a spring.

25

I think of an illusion within the earth.

26

I think of the rich smell of wheat fields.

27

I think of the legend of bread.

28

I think of the innocence of games,

29

and of that long, narrow alley

30

which was full of the fragrance of acacia trees.

31

I think of the bitter awakening after the game,

32

and of the bewilderment after the alley,

33

and of the long emptiness after the fragrance of acacias.

34

Heroic deeds?

35

Ah,

آه

36

the horses are old.

37

Love?

38

It is alone, and from a low window

39

looks upon deserts without a Majnun,

40

upon a passage with a confused memory

41

of a slender leg walking gracefully in an anklet.

42

Desires?

43

They lose themselves

44

in the merciless harmony of thousands of doors.

45

Closed?

46

Yes, continually closed, closed.

47

You will grow weary.

48

I think of a house,

49

languid with the breaths of its ivy,

50

with its illuminations bright like the pupil of an eye,

51

with its nights thoughtful, lazy, untroubled,

52

and of a newborn with a boundless smile,

53

like a circle following circle upon water,

54

and a body full of blood like a bunch of grapes.

55

I think of rubble,

56

and of the plundering of black gusts,

57

and of a suspicious light

58

which, at night, searches within the window,

59

and of a little grave, little as the body of a newborn.

60

Work… work?

61

Yes, but within that great desk

62

there lives a hidden enemy

63

which chews you slowly, slowly,

64

just as it chews the wood and the notebook,

65

and thousands of other pointless things.

66

And at last you will sink into a cup of tea

67

like a boat within a whirlpool,

68

and in the depths of the horizon, nothing but thick cigarette smoke

69

and incomprehensible lines will you see.

70

A star?

71

Yes, hundreds, hundreds, but

72

all beyond the enclosed nights.

73

A bird?

74

Yes, hundreds, hundreds, but

75

all within distant memories,

76

with the futile pride of their wingbeats.

77

I think of a cry within the alley.

78

I think of a harmless mouse which, within the wall,

79

passes from time to time.

80

Something must be said.

81

Something must be said.

82

At dawn, within a trembling moment,

83

when space, like the sensation of puberty,

84

suddenly mingles with something vague,

85

my heart wants

86

to surrender to a rebellion.

87

My heart wants

88

to rain from that great cloud.

89

My heart wants

90

to say no, no, no, no.

91

Let us go.

برویم

92

Something must be said.

93

A cup, or a bed, or solitude, or sleep?

94

Let us go…
