01

My whole existence is a dark verse,

02

which, repeating you within itself,

03

will carry you to the dawn of everlasting blossoming and growth.

04

Within this verse, I sighed you—ah.

05

Within this verse, I

06

joined you to tree and water and fire.

07

Perhaps life

08

is a long street through which, every day, a woman passes with a basket.

09

Perhaps life

10

is a rope with which a man hangs himself from a branch.

11

Perhaps life is a child returning from school.

12

Perhaps life is lighting a cigarette in the languid interval between two embraces,

13

or the bewildered passing of a pedestrian

14

who takes off his hat,

15

and with a meaningless smile says good morning to another passerby.

16

Perhaps life is that enclosed moment

17

when my gaze destroys itself within the pupils of your eyes.

18

And within this is a feeling

19

which I shall mingle with the perception of the moon and the apprehension of darkness.

20

In a room the size of a solitude,

21

my heart,

دل من

22

which is the size of a love,

23

looks upon the simple pretexts of its own happiness:

24

the beautiful fading of flowers within the vase,

25

the sapling you planted in our house's little garden,

26

and the song of canaries,

27

which sing to the measure of a window.

28

Ah…

29

This is my share.

30

This is my share.

31

My share

32

is a sky which the hanging of a curtain takes away from me.

33

My share is descending an abandoned stair,

34

and reaching something within decay and estrangement.

35

My share is a sorrowful wandering in the garden of memories,

36

and dying in the sorrow of a voice which says to me,

37

“I love your hands.”

38

I plant my hands in the little garden.

39

I shall grow green, I know, I know, I know.

40

And swallows, within the hollows of my ink-stained fingers,

41

will lay eggs.

42

I hang an earring from each ear,

43

made of two red twin cherries,

44

and stick dahlia petals upon my nails.

45

There is an alley where

46

boys who were in love with me still,

47

with the same tangled hair and slender necks and thin legs,

48

think of the innocent smile of a little girl whom, one night, the wind carried away.

49

There is an alley which my heart

50

has stolen from the neighbourhoods of my childhood.

51

The journey of a volume along the line of time,

52

and making the dry line of time pregnant with a volume,

53

a volume of an image aware,

54

which returns from the hospitality of a mirror.

55

And it is in this way

56

that someone dies,

57

and someone remains.

58

No fisherman will catch a pearl in a paltry stream which empties into a hollow.

59

I

من

60

know a little, sorrowful fairy

61

who dwells in an ocean,

62

and her heart upon a little wooden flute

63

she plays softly, softly.

64

A little, sorrowful fairy who dies of a kiss at night,

65

and at dawn will be born from a kiss.
