At every moment, across my imagination runs

an image of an empty, cold bed,

07

the image of a hand that searched in despair

08

for a body within it, with sorrow and pain.

09

I see there, beside the stove,

10

the shadow of a frail and trembling figure,

11

the shadow of arms that seem

12

to have let life go so easily.

The cat, with cold and lightless eyes,

22

steps softly and heavily.

The candle, within its final flame,

24

takes the road toward nothingness.

I know that now, from that distant house,

26

the joy of life has taken flight.

28

has fallen into mourning for his mother's absence.

29

But I, weary of soul and distraught,

30

follow the road of desire.

31

My burden is poetry, and my beloved is poetry.

32

I go to attain my beloved.
