نیایش

We traversed the light, crossed the plain of gold.

نور را پیمودیم. دشت طلا را در نوشتیم.

We picked the fable and cast it away withered.

افسانه را چید یم. و پلاسیده فکندیم.

Beside the sands, a shadow-laden sun caressed us. We paused.

کنار شن‌زان آفتابی سایه‌بار, ما را نواخت. درنگی کردیم.

On the bank of the broad river of mystery, we beheaded dreams.

پرلب رود پهناور رمز. رؤیاها را سر بریدیم.

A cloud arrived, and we closed our eyes.

ابری رسید. و ما دیده فرو بستیم.

The darkness split. We saw Venus and climbed to the summit.

ظلمت شکافت. زهره را دیدیم. و به ستیغ برآمدیم.

A lightning bolt descended and saw us immersed in prayer.

آذرخشی فرود آمد، و ما را در نیایش فرو دید.

Trembling, we wept. Laughing, we wept.

لرزان. گریستیم. خندان. گریستیم.

A downpour beat down: we were of one heart.

رگباری فرو کوفت: از در همدلی بودیم.

The darkness passed. We brushed our heads against the blue sky. We became worthy of the heavens.

سیاهی رفت. سر به آبی آسمان سودیم. درخور آسمان‌ها شدیم.

We released our shadow into the valley, scattered our smile into the expanse of emptiness.

سایه را به دره رها کردیم. لبخند را به فراخنای تهی فشاندیم.

Our silence joined together, and we became ‘we.’

سکوت ما به هم پیوست. و ما «ما» شدیم.

Our solitude spread its skirt as far as the plain of gold.¹

تنهایی ما تا دشت طلا دامن کشید. ۱

The sunlight was afraid of our face.

آفتاب از چهر؛ ما ترسید.

We understood, and laughed.

دریافتیم، و خنده زدیم.

We hid, and burned.

نهفتیم و سوختیم.

The more together, the lonelier.

هرچه به هم‌تر تنهاتر.

We parted from the summit:

از ستیغ جدا شدیم:

I came to earth and became a servant.

من به خاک آمدم، و بنده شدم.

You went up and became God.

تو بالا رفتی. و خدا شدی.
