01

I contemplate the blue above, and the green clamor below.

02

Afraid of my own shadow, I have come to the reed-bed.

03

The emptiness above frightens me, and the dagger of leaves sinks into the soul.

04

Where is an enemy to tear me away from myself?

05

A curse upon living: blind throbbing!

06

I was afflicted with being, and it was a night attack. A curse!

07

Gather up my existence, O I-know-not-what imaginary god!

08

My spear split the marble of many bodies,

09

and to what use, when it cannot tear open the breast of this sorrow?

10

A curse upon living: sweet anxiety!

11

I break my spear—the companion of danger's byways—against my body.

12

The sound of breaking resounds in the emptiness of the event. The reeds rub together.

13

The green melody splits open:

14

a woman's gaze, like a pleasant dream, settles upon my eyes.

15

Unarmed fear fells me.

16

I—the ancient spearman—become fire.

17

She—the beautiful enemy—scatters the dew of caresses.

18

She takes my hand.

19

And we—two people of ancient times—pass on.

20

We brush our bodies against the reeds, and to their green lullaby we rock the

21

cradle.

22

The blue above adorns our solitude.
