THE DEATH OF COLOR · POEM 6 OF 22
English translation draft, awaiting review.
01There is sunlight, and how vast the desert!
02There is neither plant nor tree in it.
03Apart from the cry of ravens,
04every sound has departed from this valley.
05Behind a curtain of dust,
06a black speck trembles in the distance:
07if the eye goes forward, it sees
08a person traveling along the road.
09Exhaustion has brought his body to a halt.
10Dust has settled on his head and face.
11Thirst has dried his throat.
12Thorns have wounded his bare feet.
13With every step forward, at the horizon's foot,
14his eye sees a sea of water.
15When he travels a little farther along the road,
16he thinks he must be dreaming.
