THE DEATH OF COLOR · POEM 19 OF 22
English translation draft, awaiting review.
01The sea roars.
02No one is visible upon the shore.
03There is no dark speck upon the sea
04that would become a boat
05if it came closer.
06Upon the shore remains
07a boat, with night spilled upon its head;
08the mystery of an obscure road has plunged its body
09into the bitterness of perception.
10There is no one to come along the road
11and launch it into the water.
12And now, when every ridge of water
13speaks to its hidden ear,
14a troubled wave arrives along the way to tell us
15the story of a stormy night.
16That night the fisherman had gone
17to take from the water
18something that had a bond
19with an imagined thing in a dream.
20The morning after that night, when at sea no wave
21was beating its body against another wave,
22the fishermen's eyes saw
23a boat upon the water's way, bearing
24news on its lips of the previous night's bitter event.
25Then they dragged it, drowsy, toward the shore,
26to the very place where it remains
27in this sorrowful moment.
28And near it,
29the sea roars,
30and from far away comes that wave which tells again
31of a stormy night,
32a story that is not long.
