THE GREEN EXPANSE · POEM 9 OF 25
English translation draft, awaiting review.
01‘Where is the friend's house?’ It was at dawn that the rider asked.
02The sky paused.
03The passerby gave the branch of light at his lips to the darkness of the sands,
04and pointed to a poplar with a finger, and said:
05‘Before you reach the tree,
06there is a garden lane greener than God's sleep,
07and in it love is as blue as the feathers of honesty.
08You go to the end of that lane, which emerges from behind maturity.
09Then you turn toward the flower of solitude.
10Two steps before the flower,
11you remain at the eternal fountain of the earth's myths,
12and a transparent fear overtakes you.
13In the flowing intimacy of space, you hear a rustling:
14you see a child,
15climbed up a tall pine to take a fledgling from the nest of light,
16and you ask the child:
17where is the friend's house?’
