In this darkness,

من در این تاریکی

I think of a bright lamb,

فکر یک بره روشن هستم

that may come and graze the grass of my fatigue.

که بیاید علف خستگی‌ام را بچرد.

In this darkness,

من در این تاریکی

I see the wet length of my arms beneath a rain

امتداد تر بازوهایم را زیر بارانی می‌بینم

that soaked humanity's first prayers.

که دعاهای نخستین بشر را تر کرد.

In this darkness,

من در این تاریکی

I opened the door to ancient meadows,

در گشودم به چمن‌های قدیم،

to golds we watched upon the wall of myths.

به طلایی‌هایی. که به دیوار اساطیر تماشا کردیم.

In this darkness,

من در این تاریکی

I saw roots,

ریشه‌ها را دیدم

and explained water to death's newly grown bush.

و برای بوته نورس مرگ، آب را معنی کردم.
